the most wonderful best friend a girl could ever have. Lucky went to the hospital and took pics of my niece for me!! I love my family. Hi, Family!!! BUT, Jana is really the only one that knows how to work a digital camera and a computer. Jason would have taken care of it…but it seems that his digital camera is in Colorado. (thanks) On her blogging debut….here is a beautiful little girl……

Alison Elizabeth was born sometime this afternoon. I honestly don’t have a clue as to what the time was. She was 6lb. 9oz. and 20-1/2″ long. I don’t have pics yet.  So, I leave you with a picture from Mom’s visit……

Don’t you hate it when….

September 20, 2007

you think ALL day that it really another day of the week?? All day today I thought it was Thursday. All day yesterday I thought it was Wednesday. I even asked Jason how his bowling league was. ?!?! What is wrong with me? I think it has something to do with the weather changing, all the extracurricular activities I’ve attended, or my brain is just overloaded. My week, so far, has consisted of 2 volleyball games and a football game. Our girls are pretty good at volleyball. I think we won both nights. I helped them practice before the game. It was fun playing with the girls, but next time I won’t wear heels. lol Our poor, poor football team. I feel bad for our 8th graders. They try, but it just isn’t enough. They’ve played three games and lost all of them. Last night, I caught a few players after the game and gave them high-five’s for their hard work. But, they were still sad and discussing it this morning. Our 7th grade team has won 2 and lost for the first time last night at the very end. I’m sure it was a quiet bus ride back from Aspen. Poor Jamie, he wasn’t in a very good mood last night. I just stayed away today. As far as I know, they are no sporting events tomorrow. BUT, Friday is a big game for our high school. I don’t know anything about it. I just keep hearing how big it is. I’ve been invited to go with a group of people, but don’t know yet. *Remember the possibility of going out of town.* I guess I just need to figure it out, since I now have an extra day before the weekend. That’s about it for school right now.

Sara went to the dr. She said that they would induce her on October 1st if she doesn’t go before. She’s had many contractions, but they haven’t been enough to speed things up. I’m excited!!! Wish I was there for the big day, but at least no one can fight her for me when I come to town. I’ll have the excuse, “but I NEVER get to see her. I live 1200 miles away!!” Do you think it will work? I do. ; ) I miss my other two nieces, too.  Julie sent me an adorable pic of Eva. I put it on my work computer as my background. All you can see is her cute face. My kids love it.

And the most exciting news of all……I’m getting cable installed next Tuesday. It’s my birthday present to myself. (Birthday is Monday. Send me love.) Comcast is running a special for $25/month for 6 months including HBO. I signed up quickly.

Going to wind down so I can start over tomorrow which is really Thursday and not today. My poor brain. It needs a vacation.

How was your Monday?

September 18, 2007

I was running a little late this morning. I still had 40 minutes to get to school before the kids, but I like to be there early. I go around a turn and see a car stopped, a cop in front of the car blocking the road, a dump truck, and bull dozer. It seems that we got a lot of rain last night and it caused a rock/mud slide. Cool, huh? I had to turn around and go to school through town. This date can go down as the first time I’ve encountered a rock slide. All the kids that came in late due to the rock slide were excused and announcements were made that kids would be late. Things are different here, very different. While I was driving home I was staring at Mt. Sopris. I’m pretty sure there is snow on its peak. It’s hard to tell through the clouds. It’s still strange to see the clouds cover the tops of the mountains. I have a hard time deciding if the clouds are really low or the mountains are really high.

I had a tough day with my classes. They were all so hyper from the cooling weather and rain. I wasn’t functioning very well. I hope tomorrow is much a better day. I did not go outside in the rain to take a picture during recess, so you will have to wait for that one.
Let’s all send prayers to Sara. She goes back to the doctor tomorrow and has been having a few contractions. Poor thing is back on bedrest and waiting to see what will happen next. I’m hoping we’ll know more after the doctor and I can work on booking a plane ticket. : )

I almost forgot….Jamie started calling Commish b/c of Commissioner Gordon from Batman. (I think it was batman. I know it’s one of those super heros that I never watch.) Jamie gives everyone a nickname and keeps us laughing.

A few more pics

This first picture is the door of a shop in town. Just thought it was cool. Doc Holliday’s grave is just up the street. Cool, huh?

Below is a picture of the rugby field where I spent all day sitting in the sun relaxing. Fresh air, sunshine, great day!

I finally followed the path beside the park and found the river. It was a little tricky to get to this spot, but I really wanted to get the little white caps.

And the last one for the evening is a picture of the park behind the apartment. If I ever tell you that I am outside and talking to you, I’m probably sitting on the picnic table in the park. I do mean sitting on the table. I love to look at the mountains and the stars.

Didn’t make it to see the hot air balloons

September 16, 2007

They went up early in the mornings and I was tired this weekend. Maybe next year. If I was going with someone else, I probably would have made it. Since it was just me it was easy to roll over and go back to sleep on Saturday. I could have made it this morning, but I decided that I didn’t want to miss church. I  went last Sunday and have decided to go as much as possible. It’s VERY informal. People are a lot more casual here than in Memphis. Many people wear jeans and stuff to church. I can’t do that, at least not yet. Today I saw a guy in bright shorts (may have been swimming trunks) and a wife beater (tank top). I know I really couldn’t do that, but I guess it’s okay as long as they came. I took some pictures this weekend. I will continue to take more to show you the city and my school. I’m going to change clothes and head to school in a minute. I have to prepare for the week. : )

newbies.jpg

This is a pic of the “newbies” as we are called. Beside me is Kristen or KK. In the middle is Jamie or Somerville. To the bottom left is Suzanne or Ms. Fitz. And at the bottom right is Beth or Beth 3. My nickname right now is Commish.

classroom-view.jpg

This is the view from my classroom window. It sure beats looking at the back of houses like I did last year. I’ll try to remember to take one on the playground next week.

I have a few more pics but it is taking a while to upload, so I will share those later. Miss you all! Love you!

Sports Fan or Social Person

September 13, 2007

I have attended two different sporting events for my school this week. Yesterday, my boys played football. They lost, but I was there to cheer them on anyway. Tonight, we had a volleyball game for the ladies. They won! I think it’s good to go and support my school, my kids. They love having teachers there. They pretend that they don’t, but they do. Plus, I’m a social person and sporting events are free for teachers. I have a dilema for the weekend….go to Ft. Collins and visit Matthew or wait until next weekend. He just came back into town from Ireland and we’ve been trying to set a date to visit since I moved. *For those of you that don’t know Matthew, he was one of Mom’s vendors. Pretty much another son to her.* The hot air balloon festival is in Snowmass this weekend and I would kind of like to stick around and take pictures of the balloons in the mountains. It sounds really cool. Not to mention that I need to do some planning and this weekend is very short notice.

Tomorrow is the 13th, which means it is Marshell’s birthday. Happy Birthday, Bubba!

The mornings and evenings are getting chilly, but the afternoons are still really warm. : )

Sorry! I haven’t posted…

September 9, 2007

My internet is not working at home. I don’t know what is going on, but it’s driving me crazy!!! So, I came to school just so I could use the internet and update everyone. (I really have to get some work done.) The first week went very well. The kids are very talkative. I’ve never had kids talk so much on the first day of school as theses kids do. I only have a few that I can tell are going to give me problems. I just have to remember to call home soon. I went to a volleyball game in Aspen on Wednesday.  It was fun. We won, of course. My girls were excited to have me there. I borrowed a jersey and wore it on Friday for Spirit Day. : ) They really loved that. I met several of my parents on Thursday night for Open House. The parents that saw me at the game were very impressed in my attendance. : ) I promised the boys that I would go to the next football game. It’s a home game, which means I just have to drive over to the high school. My principal (I do adore him.) introduced me at Open House and then proceeded to tell everyone that I was from Memphis and would say y’all. I had a lady come running in my room and yell, “How y’all doin’?” I just stopped and smiled, thinking who the heck is this woman. She lived in Memphis for 20 years, so she wanted to meet me. I don’t even teach her children. She was very nice and gave me her phone numbers in case I need something.

It’s starting to really cool off at night. I was out downtown on Friday night and it was too chilly to walk around without a jacket when the sun went down. Had a good time and got to know some other teachers a little better. I tend to stick around the “newbies” (as my principal calls us). I really was blessed to get this job with great teachers and awesome administration. I have never, never seen administration that cares like these guys do.

Well, I have to go plan for this week. I’ll try to remember to throw my camera in my purse to take some more pictures. It will be Fall soon and I hear that it goes by really fast. Love to you all! Miss everyone!

In case I can’t get on the internet this week at home….

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, GRANNY!!! (tuesday)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, BUBBA!!! (thursday)

And all that Jazz…..

September 1, 2007

Last night I went to the Jazz Aspen Snowmass Festival. It’s a really big deal. They have one in June and one Labor Day weekend and some free concerts throughout the year. I was quickly reminded on Music Fest while driving to the concert. It was raining! But  it cleared and was a beautiful night. It’s awesome to stand outside listening to great music under the stars. The scenery is always so beautiful here even when it gets rainy. I saw two rainbows yesterday both look like they were coming out of a mountain. One thing that I really smelled last night was pot. It was almost constant through the concert. I ddn’t think about people smoking it here, but I guess there are a lot of “natural” people here. Next year, I will remember this festival and hopefully get to attend more than one event. After the concert, I met some of the other newbies (new teachers) for a drink at The Bayou. They had great fried pickles. We walked down to Springs for a beer. It’s a very small almost hole in the wall kinda bar. It was interesting. I like going and checking out the local places. I don’t know where  we are all going today, but the Vols play at 6 and the game is on ESPN. We are going to try to find a bar that is showing it. There really isn’t a sports bar here. Well, I am off to detail a car……
