Sledding

April 3, 2008

All of the kids were so excited to be at the top of the hill. They had their carefully engineered sleds. They had their helmets. They had their dreams….. Ready….Set….Go…….um, yeah. We need to use more duct tape next year. lol Most sleds didn’t “go” as much as they were dragged down the hill on the first run.

They were pushed down the hill. They rolled down the hill. They skated down the hill. Only one sled (made by a group of girls) made it down with just a push. It went fast! It was so much fun! I thought we were going to go off the jump, but I was stuck in the middle and couldn’t bail out. The sleds started falling apart so the kids were just grabbing pieces and taking off down the hill after the first run.

No title necessary.

I decided that I wanted a bottle of wine for my Saturday evening. I’m sitting in front of the television watching Pride and Prejudice. What a great movie. I love it. I watched Becoming Jane last weekend and it was just as good. Heartbreaking, yes, but good. Back to the wine. I ran out to a little liquor store in town and was looking for the bottle of cab that Jason and I had one evening at Fleming’s. I couldn’t remember the name so I called him. It was Francis Coppola. I looked and looked, finally I saw the name and grabbed the bottle. It was on sale for something like $12. Score! He called me back and I realized that I didn’t grab the same wine that we had. I grabbed Francis Coppola presents Rosso Classic. It’s a mix of zinfandel, syrah, and cabernet. Let me say it is de-li-cious! I hope that it wasn’t on sale because it was the last bottle and they aren’t ordering more. There are several liquor stores in this little town, so I guess I could try somewhere else. I just wish I had a nice big steak to go along with the wine.

Good find of the day: I spent $14 on curtains for three windows today. The curtains that were up in the den/dining room were a little dingy, so I decided to replace them. I found dark brown linen curtains with a little embroidered design across the bottom for $3.50 a pair. That made me happy. I wanted darker curtains to block the sun when I’m trying to watch television. Thanks, wall-hell!

I, also, found the 4th book in the James Patterson series that I haven’t finished. I listened to the second and third book on my travels to Colorado. I received books 6  & 7 as a present, so I just had to find the ones in between. I hope to finish Wild Fire before my travels to Memphis at the end of the month. It’s good and a sequel to Night Fall. I’ve really enjoyed reading lately. I hope I can keep it up.

Sorry to bore you all. I just haven’t done much lately. But, there is always tomorrow. I’m hoping to head up the mountain. We’ll see. Oh, yeah! Don’t forget that Daylight Savings time is this weekend. Spring Forward. Spring? I’m ready.

I’m alive!

Hello, Everyone! Something is going on with my wireless service at home. I can get on with the neighbors, but not with my own wireless router. It’s strange. The airport shows a full signal, but there is always a “problem loading page” error when I go to any website. I’m hoping the signal from the neighbors will last long enough for me to finish this post and publish it.

Here are a few updates from the week: (I know a lot of you have talked to me, so you already know. Just play along.)

  • Last Friday, Granny had back surgery. It was longer than expected, but she came through very well. She was released from the hospital on Tuesday and is now at a rehab facility. Mom said that Granny is doing great in rehab. We don’t know how long she will be there yet. Maybe one week, maybe two.
  • My little taller, just younger cousin, Jenifer, had her second baby on Tuesday. (It was a busy day for my family.) Christopher Colin came into this world weighing 8lb. 1 oz. and was 20 inches long. His brother was much bigger, but I hear that they look A LOT alike. Mommy and Colin are doing well. Just say a prayer that they will remain healthy. Dad is sick and Mommy has had a cold almost the entire pregnancy.
  • I have no new snow to report. It’s kind of strange.
  • I need to send out a big congrats to the Heisser’s! They found out today that they are having a little girl!!! Sonya is our 7th grade LA teacher and Jeremy is our tech teacher. They are an awesome couple and will be fantastic parents. : ) Sonya is due in July. (pronounced with a long o)
  • I am about 20 pages short of finishing a book I started in January. I’ve been very busy, because I should have knocked it out a long time ago.
  • My kids and I discussed gambling today. I was teaching them about probability and next thing I know we were discussing casino games. I rock as a teacher. Don’t judge. They were awake and they were listening. Don’t get me started on how I was able to relate slope-intercept form to get married and having babies. y=mx+b
  • I watched Ratouille (or however you spell it) last night. Very cute movie. I enjoyed it. I took it upstairs for the girls to watch.
  • My compaq laptop is sitting in a Fed Ex drop box. I managed to miss all of the drop off times in this town. The latest is 4! There is not a store to take it to, so I dropped it in the box and said a little prayer. It will be picked up by 3 tomorrow and on its way to Tennessee. Hopefully, it will be fixed quickly and shipped right back.

I leave you with the only picture that I have of Colin right now. It’s from a phone camera, so it’s a little fuzzy.

Snow Sculptures

February 5, 2008

Driving down Grand Ave, I always see the most beautiful snow sculptures. I never knew the story behind it, until this article was put in the paper today. I love my small town. It’s so cute. Just wish shopping was closer. : )
